CfA have supported us a at Bow from the outset in supporting our GCSE and A Level introductions and provision, and opening up the door to showing our pupils the lively progression to studying the Classic beyond school. This has been delivered through lots of swift 1-2-1 feedback and advice from yourself at what feels like the Classics helpdesk, as well as ongoing support from Classics colleagues CfA have helped us access. This has included workshops, online training, visits to established departments and ongoing support from a mentor, funded by CfA.
Bow needed to overcome the fact that we had no Classics specialist and CfA have been essential to building my confidence in delivering Classics as a History teacher. We also have no body of existing resources and this too has been much aided by CfA and the mentor they have funded. We also have no experience of assessments and marking and our confidence in addressing this too has been supported by CfA training and advice
Pupils have really enjoyed the literature and storytelling that underlies much of what we do in Ancient History at Bow. Stories and reading are often one of the joys of primary school education that gets lost at secondary school, but Ancient History at Bow has enabled many of our students to re-engage with this way of learning. It has also gone on to broaden their enjoyment of wider reading for other subjects
We are proud of the fact that we have had our first Classics offer at Oxbridge this year, to a student who excelled in GCSE Ancient History but was unable to continue through Key Stage 5 with Classics, so instead studied History and stayed engaged with Classics outside of lessons. Our student was then able to display this ongoing love of Classics in her Oxbridge exams and interviews with the support of CfA.
